Mr Kumar,

I've not seen the race as I could not go to Mahalaxmi on that day. I'm waiting for the CD of the race and after viewing it I'll definitely post my comments.

Mr. Kumar,

all Sundays are good and not sinful.what has happened on this Sunday has happened earlier and will happen again. But I'm not going to philosophise this topic.

let me start with some wellknown facts:

1)It is not necessary that a favorite should win always and everytime.
2)wherever money is involved, an element of greed and manipulation will creep in.
3) It is the responsibility of the administrators to ensure fair racing
at their center.

I'll reproduce a statement from the chairman of Stewards published on Racing pulse forum...

Chairman of the Stewards has clarified:

1.The decision was taken under Rule 31(b) which empowers Stewards to declare bets on any totalisator pool/s or bookmakers null and void. In this instance, the result of the race stood but bets were refunded.
2.The Stewards did not declare either the race null and void or Sparkling Spirit a non starter, which were other options under Rule 31(a) in a measure to protect the stake money payable to the winning and placed horses. By refunding bets, we sought to protect the interest of the majority of punters who suffered due to an alleged and prima facie, serious malpractice in the running and riding of the favourite.
3.There are concerns that this decision would set a precedent. The last time the Stewards declared a race void for similar reasons was a few years back in the Mazan case. It is only in exceptional circumstances that the Stewards have used their discretionary powers under this Rule.
4.It was felt that the occasional and rare resort to acting under this Rule would discourage wrong doers and instill confidence in the punting public.
5.It is natural that decisions cannot meet with the satisfaction of all, and it is hoped that members and race goers appreciate the reasons and circumstances in which they are taken and always an overall view of what is best in each case, has to be debated and decided upon.
6.The jockey has been suspended with immiedate effect and both the trainer and jockey will be subjected to detailed enquiry and investigation by the Stipendiary Stewards and the Vigilance Officers of the Club.

Lot of comments have been published on various sites - for or against the decision. I'm neither for or against the decision, nor I agree that it has set a bad precedent.

But I'm against the hippcracy of the controllers of racing in India and their shortsighted adhoc measures. Moreover, I do not believe that these 18 or 19(down from 40+ at one time) bookmakers manipulate the races.

the owners and the trainers with the help(or subsevient acceptance) of a jockey manipulate 90% of 'manipulated' races and 10% of these 'manipulated'races have a jockey as the central figure. Mafia ,representing utside influence based in Dubai and Karachi helps them - directly or indirectly.

Many years ago a wise friend told me that if every race is analysed then all jockeys and trainers will be suspended and racing will come to a standstill.
my response was that it is better we don't have racing for few days or months or even years untill we eradicate this menace of manipulators...

he did not respond, shrugged his shoulders and kept quiet.

the silence said all I wanted to know...

the one who has never sinned should cast the first stone...Jesus said, long ago - perhaps too long ago...
