Trois Etoiles – grand dam of Set Alight
Trois Etoiles (Alysheba- Trefoil) after winning several long distance races was bought and brought to India By Major Mehra of Usha Stud farm and her first foal a filly by Steinbeck was named Set Aside – dam of Set Alight . While Set Aside ran mostly in Calcutta , perhaps under the ownership of late L.C. Gupta and won several races up to 2000m her dam – Trois Etoiles ( a stayer) covered by Razeen in subsequent years . These ‘produce’ could never go beyond 1600m except a female progeny called Allez Indi who placed second in Hyderabad Oaks and Derby in 2007. the breeder never tried the ‘nick’ of balancing Northern Dancer in male and female lineage and failed to produce a reasonably good male or female progeny out of Trios Etoiles. She is past her prime- perhaps barren at this old age. If at the fag end of her breeding career she is mated with her ‘first love’- Steinbeck , she may , I’ll say only may, deliver something good for Indian racing…
